Meeting Summary

🎯 Strategic Direction

Yoana and James aligned on a pragmatic two-phase approach for the website. Given James's imminent travel to Portugal for a major conference launch followed by his honeymoon, the team agreed to get the current build live now and revisit a potential Squarespace migration after James returns on June 12th (04:47).

The current site is built in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript [tag="js"] and hosted on GitHub [tag="github"], which means edits aren't naturally accessible without a developer interface (03:53). The solution: connect Claude [tag="claude"] directly to the GitHub repo so Yoana can make edits via natural language—well-suited to her current life as a new mom working in short windows between baby naps.

Yoana remains open to either launching now with Claude-based editing or waiting until the Squarespace migration. She'll decide based on how the next round of edits feels.

🤖 Claude + GitHub Editing Workflow

James demonstrated live how easy it is to direct Claude to make site changes—adding identity labels, moving content blocks, even asking Claude where on the site a section would best live (12:07). The interface allows voice messages from a phone, which fits Yoana's reality of editing in 15-minute increments.

Setup Requirements
  • Claude Pro subscription at $20/month [tag="claude"]
  • GitHub account access, to be set up by James [tag="github"]
  • Walkthrough on connecting Claude to the GitHub repo

James shared his own site (jamestoday) as a reference for how the folder structure, image storage, and editing flow work in practice.

✍️ Content & Visual Edits

Homepage

The background video will be replaced with the static sunset photo from the San Francisco Bay Area that currently flashes briefly before the video loads—Yoana prefers it (07:26). A better video may be sourced later from iStock.

On the question of identity labels (attorney, lecturer, etc.), James affirmed that having multiple identities is appropriate: "It's 2026. We're all many things—we're a verb, not a noun" (09:12). Options include scrolling identities on mobile if line-length becomes an issue. The team also discussed reducing visual busyness near the top of the homepage by potentially consolidating the credentials/roles banner with the identities line.

Publications Section

The publications filter bar will be removed since there aren't enough items to warrant filtering (19:15). Structure agreed on:

  • Selected Work (top)
  • Resolutions
  • Other Writing
  • Featured In (with publication logos where possible)

Google Doc links will be used directly for publications hosted as view-only docs (20:54).

Media Mentions Research

Yoana asked whether Claude could locate TV news clips featuring her. James queried Claude and got a useful breakdown: free DIY searching via Google/YouTube and station websites only surfaces what's publicly posted, while paid PR services maintain transcript databases that can search and pull clips (24:33). James will email the detailed response.

Photo Replacements

Yoana walked James through specific photo swaps using the 📄 Figma file and Google Drive references:

  • New way of being / homepage: graffiti photo with "the function of freedom is to free someone else"
  • Conflict Resolution: red shirt photo
  • Restorative Justice: centerpiece with flowers (moved from current conflict resolution slot)
  • Political Campaigning: kneeling at polling place (already on site)
  • Ritual offerings: flower composition or redwood tree photo from Figma
  • Commission: photo 4459 from the Google Drive folder
  • The "touching hands in center" photo to be relocated or temporarily set aside—Yoana wants to use it somewhere

Offerings and bio pages need photo reformatting—current crops are cutting images off in ways Yoana doesn't love (27:04).

🗓️ Timeline

  • Now → Pre-Portugal: James does another pass on edits, sets up Claude + GitHub for Yoana
  • Late May – Mid June: Yoana trials Claude-based editing during James's absence
  • June 12: James returns
  • Week of June 15+: Follow-up meeting to assess Claude workflow, decide on Squarespace migration
