Introduction

Dear Randall,
Thank you for the conversation we had (now some weeks back). It was a gift to hear your story—forty years observing how media shapes consciousness, from your early days reading Expanded Cinema in high school through pioneering interactive web content to this moment where AI forces questions we should have been asking all along.

What struck me most was how you've spent decades behind the scenes, building the infrastructure for others to share their work, and how you're now feeling called to step forward with your own voice. The timing feels right—not just for you, but for what the moment needs. Someone who understands both the craft of media production and the consciousness dimension of what's actually happening.

I also appreciated your openness about the creative process. Your phrase "I want my team to do everything better than I can do it" says a lot about how you work. That collaborative spirit resonates deeply with how we approach projects at Iris Cocreative.

This proposal reflects what we discussed: a cinematic, elegant site that establishes your credibility while inviting exploration—something that starts simple and can evolve as your work unfolds. I've outlined three pathways forward, each honoring the vision you described while offering different levels of depth and refinement.

Looking forward to bringing this into form together.
James

Project Vision

You're creating a platform where your four decades of media expertise meets the urgent questions of this moment. Media: Expanded will position you as a voice for the consciousness community navigating our increasingly screen-mediated reality—someone who understands both the production craft and the deeper implications of what's unfolding. The site needs to do several things at once: establish credibility for speaking engagements, support your book launch in early 2026, and serve as a content hub for interviews and writing. But more fundamentally, it needs to communicate your core insight—that we're living in both "real life" and "screen life" simultaneously, and most people don't realize how profoundly this is shaping consciousness, especially now as AI accelerates the transformation. The design should feel cinematic and thoughtfully interactive, inviting exploration while maintaining focus on substance over spectacle. Start simple, launch clean, and evolve as your work and audience reveal what's needed.

Design Direction

Cinematic and inviting, but grounded in substance

Your background as a producer points toward something elegant and thoughtfully composed—a site that feels like a carefully crafted visual experience rather than a collection of standard templates.

Subtle interactivity that invites exploration

The vision is for floating, clickable elements that come into view with subtle animation—sections that "stick" long enough for people to engage, creating a sense of discovery without overwhelming. The goal is to make it "a little fun to poke around" while still encouraging people to actually read and absorb the content.

Visual flow over rigid structures

Rather than traditional box layouts and repetitive navigation patterns, the site should guide the eye naturally through space. A cinematic video header establishes production quality and credibility. Clean hierarchy integrates photography and text. Movement serves the content rather than calling attention to itself.

Professional depth with accessible clarity

The aesthetic should reflect forty years of industry experience—polished, intentional, sophisticated. But it needs to stay approachable. Depth available for those who want to go deeper, but clear entry points for everyone.

Start simple, iterate intentionally

Launch with a clean structure (Home, Media: Expanded, Bio, Speaking, Writing On) and add features as your work and audience reveal what's actually needed. Let the site evolve naturally rather than trying to predict everything upfront.
Timeline & Process

Target Launch: Early 2026 (Q1)

Development Window: 2-4 months, ideally closer to 2

We'd suggest starting formal work in November, working between the holidays with a launch in January or February. This aligns with your book release timing and gives breathing room to do things right.

The Iris Cocreative Approach

The most effective designs emerge from genuine collaboration. By combining our individual expertise at the right moments and embracing a shared creative process, we produce results that resonate with everyone involved. My role is to integrate our collective skillsets and guide the project so it stays focused, efficient, and true to our overall vision.

We work with four overlapping dimensions on every project:→

Strategy & Content
(2-3 Weeks)

Clarifying messaging, positioning, and site architecture. Understanding audience and goals. We'll discuss content strategy, organization, vision, and language. I'll start by listening and gathering and then we'll refine and structure what arises.

These sessions will create shared artifacts that guide every creative decision moving forward.

Vision & Brand
(2-3 Weeks)

Through 1-2 Content & Structure Sessions, we'll explore visual identity, color palette, typography, and design language. This includes any logo refinement (you mentioned having ideas) and creating a cohesive aesthetic that feels right for your work.

Design & Interaction
(2-4 Weeks)

Building the actual site experience in Figma first, where we can play with layouts, art, and interactions. This is where your cinematic header and floating elements take shape. Once we align on design, we move to development where we'll see the whole come to life.

Development & Launch
(2-4 Weeks)

Building in Webflow with attention to performance, responsiveness, and ease of use. We create the framework and structure, you populate content at your own pace. Training included so you're comfortable making updates.

Throughout, we stay collaborative and iterative—holding space for what wants to emerge rather than forcing predetermined solutions.

Launch & Handoff

Once we finish development, we'll have a final review where you can record any last adjustments before going live. We'll make sure you have everything you need to use your new site confidently, including whatever brand and social media assets we've created in the process. Your site will be ready to share with the world.
